Police hunt for 'dangerous' grandson of woman murdered in street

A "dangerous" man being hunted by police after the murder of 82-year-old woman on a Glasgow street is her grandson, the BBC understands.

Elizabeth Colligan, died after being found injured on Cardowan Road, in the city's Carntyne area in the early hours on Saturday.

Her grandson Grant McKinnon, 30, was last seen in the area at about 04:00.

Police Scotland said officers were following a positive line of inquiry and have set up an online portal in an appeal for information from members of the public.

Elizabeth Colligan, a local lollipop lady known as Betty, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services.

Friends and neighbours on Cardowan Road paid tribute to a "nice wee lady".

One neighbour, Patricia, told BBC Scotland News: "She used to walk the dog and say hello to everybody. She was a friendly wee soul.

She said the street was usually very quiet so the incident had come as a shock.

Another neighbour, Shaun, described Elizabeth as a "great neighbour".

Several floral tributes have been left at the scene of the incident.

One reads: "A lollipop woman who served the community, a lovely woman who deserved more."

Police Scotland said officers were following a positive line of inquiry and work was ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

Det Insp Gordon Walker said: "Our thoughts remain with Elizabeth's family and friends during this very difficult time.

"We are continuing to offer them our support as the investigation progresses."

He added door-to-door inquiries were being carried out in the local area and a detailed review of all available CCTV footage was being carried out.

Chief Insp Jon Watters added : "We understand that this will be concerning for the local community, and we want to reassure the public that extensive inquiries are underway."
