A man who sexually abused a vulnerable teenage boy 14 years ago has been jailed.

Zana Adil Mohammed, 48, from Huddersfield, pleaded guilty to five counts of sexual activity with a child and four counts of making indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of a child.

At Leeds Crown Court on Thursday, he was jailed for five years and two months for the offences, which he committed in Huddersfield in December 2011.

According to West Yorkshire Police, Mohammed had fled to Iraq during the initial stages of the investigation but was arrested on his return to the UK in October last year.

Det Con Leanne Sanderson of the Kirklees Child Safeguarding Unit said Mohammed "clearly poses a significant risk" to young men.

"The appalling offences he committed deeply affected his young male victim and I would personally like to thank him for his bravery in reporting this crime and his support of the investigation," she said.

"It has taken a lot of courage to disclose such abuse, and we hope that seeing Zana jailed will give him some measure of closure."

Sanderson urged anyone who has been a victim of unreported abuse, regardless of when it occurred, to come forward.
