Arrest as man in critical condition after attack

A man has been taken to hospital with critical injuries after a serious attack near a town centre, police have said.

Officers have arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm after an incident on Reeves Close in Cirencester at about 18:20 BST on Thursday.

Gloucestershire Police said that the assault occurred after an argument between two men who are believed to know each other. The 21-year-old man, who reportedly fled the scene before being tracked down by officers, remains in custody.

The victim, who is aged in his 20s, remains in a critical condition at Southmead Hospital.
