Concerns raised over plans for 200 homes in suburb
PA MediaDerby City Council's urban design team has recommended turning down proposals for up to 200 homes near Spondon due to its impact on green space.
Keepmoat Homes submitted outline plans to Derby City Council in February for a housing development on land located off Acorn Way.
The developer said it wanted to create an "attractive, vibrant and stimulating environment".
The Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) said a decision on the proposals was likely to be made by the city council later this year.
A report prepared by the council's urban design officer said the proposed scheme would cause a "high degree of harm" to the green wedge.
According to the LDRS, a green wedge is an area of agricultural land used to separate different suburbs in Derby to maintain their identities.
"The green wedge serves an important urban function in providing separation and urban structure to this area of the city, particularly in relation to providing a gap between the suburb of Chaddesden and the historic village of Spondon," the report added.
In a statement, Keepmoat Homes said it was aware of concerns made with the current application.
Robin McGinn, planning director, said: "As a partnership-first housebuilder, Keepmoat prioritises working closely with all relevant bodies to create sustainable communities and deliver much needed local housing options."
