Dad found guilty of shaking baby son to death
Cleveland PoliceA former window cleaner has been found guilty of shaking his three-month-old son to death.
Bradley Thomas, 23, of Redcar, had been accused of causing a "catastrophic" brain injury to his son after he struggled to settle him in October 2025.
Emmerson Oak Thomas died three days later in hospital.
Thomas will be sentenced at Teesside Crown Court on 15 July.
As the verdict was delivered Thomas broke down in tears and there were cries from the public gallery.
Judge Mr Justice Sheldon told the public gallery he appreciated the difficulty of the case but he asked them to "show decorum".
He also thanked members of the jury for their participation.
'Deeply distressing investigation'
Thomas had told jurors Emmerson slipped from his lap while he was feeding him and denied ever deliberately harming his son.
Thomas's partner of almost two years said she was awoken by him "screaming" with "pure fear" and when she got to her son he was "completely limp".
The woman previously told the court her partnership with Thomas was "amazing" and he had "finally shown" her what a relationship was supposed to be like.
He adored their son and "loved the bones" of him, the woman said, adding he was "scared" to rock him too much but she told him he could move him more.
Senior investigating officer Det Supt Deb Fenny said: "Emmerson Oak was an innocent three-month-old child whose life was senselessly taken.
"This has been an exceptionally complex and deeply distressing investigation, not only because of the nature of the injuries involved, but also due to Emmerson Oak's age and vulnerability.
"While no outcome could ever undo the harm cause or bring Emmerson Oak back to his family, today's verdict ensures that Bradley Thomas is rightly held accountable and will have to live with the consequences of his actions."
