RNLI crew rescued after large waves capsize boat
GoogleA pair of RNLI crewmates were rescued after large waves caused the boat they were in to capsize during poor weather.
The RNLI said its Plymouth volunteers were assisting with a shoreline search for a missing person on Monday when its small Y-boat was launched to get a closer view of the coast near Wembury.
It said during the search, a "larger than normal set of waves" engulfed the vessel and caused it to capsize.
A spokesperson said both volunteers were quickly recovered from the water with one taken to hospital as a precaution. They were discharged shortly after being assessed by medics.
The lifeboat crew continued the shoreline search until being stood down a short time later by HM Coastguard, the RNLI said.
It said due to weather and sea conditions, the Y-boat could not be recovered initially but was later returned to the station for assessment and repairs.
