Police found a man had locked himself inside a house

A man has been arrested after armed officers and police negotiators were called to reports of a man threatening a woman.

Officers were called to Ullswater Road, Cheltenham, at around 06:50 BST on Saturday morning and discovered a man had locked himself inside a house.

Just over three hours later, a man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of affray and criminal damage and remains in police custody.

Gloucestershire Constabulary said road closures and a cordon were in place for a time, as well as neighbouring homes evacuated, to allow the negotiators to work. It emphasised that despite the heavy police presence, there was no wider threat to the public.

"Officers would like to reassure the public that no-one was injured during the incident and they would also like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding while emergency services were in attendance," the force added.
