Young Farmers have raised more than £8,000 to support children experiencing bereavement during National Young Farmers' Week.

Members of Launceston and Warleggan Young Farmers' groups celebrated the theme of belonging by fundraising for the Cornish childhood bereavement charity Penhaligon's friends.

Shearing events, big breakfasts, dung runs, Christmas tree collections, bingo nights and tractor runs all contributed towards the total.

Julie Parker, chief executive of Penhaligon's Friends, said: "Community support like this helps us continue delivering our vital services and ensures we can be there for families in the future."

National Young Farmers' Week is an annual celebration of the movement that brings together members aged between 10 and 28.

Penhaligon's Friends helps over 1,000 bereaved children and young people every year.

Parker said she was "delighted" when the clubs decided to support the charity, and the money would go directly into supporting families through groups and memory days.

She said: "Not only are they raising money, but they are also helping to raise awareness of our services, enabling more families to know about the support available should they need it.

"Their enthusiasm and commitment to helping local charities is truly appreciated."
