'Potentially dangerous chemicals' in warehouse fire

Crews are continuing to tackle a fire at a warehouse in Leicestershire known to contain "potentially dangerous chemicals".

Ten crews responded after the alarm was raised at Anglo Adhesives on a former airfield in Dalby Road, Melton Mowbray, at 20:13 BST on Monday.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said the two-storey warehouse was known to contain a large quantity of combustible liquids.

Three crews remain at the scene damping down but there have not been any reports of injuries.

A fire service spokesperson said: "Ten fire appliances plus our aerial ladder and turntable ladder platforms were sent to the incident due to the extent of the developing blaze.

"The warehouse was two storeys high and 25m by 50m and was known to contain a large quantity of combustible liquids and other potentially dangerous chemicals.

"Two water carriers were also sent to provide additional capacity for our crews, who worked throughout the night trying to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings."

Nearby residents were advised to close windows and doors due to smoke from the scene.

The cause of the fire is not yet known but the fire service confirmed only one building was involved.
