A man has admitted perverting the course of justice in connection with the murder of a 20-year-old in Sheffield two decades ago.

Ibrahim Ilyas was shot dead as he sat in a car on Abbeyfield Road in the Pitsmoor area of the city on 3 June 2006, while two other men were injured during the incident.

Faiser Hussain, 44, pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice on Tuesday part-way through his trial at Hull Crown Court, where he had also been accused of one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder.

After the plea was accepted, Hussain, of no fixed abode, was found not guilty of the remaining charges on the direction of the judge.

The defendant, who was arrested at Manchester Airport in March this year, was remanded into custody and will be sentenced on Thursday.

Mohammed Ali, of Fir Vale, was convicted of Ilyas' murder in 2007 and was jailed for life with a minimum term of 30 years.
