Emergency services were called to the fire near Ardersier

Seven fire crews have been dealing with a blaze in a building near a military base in the Highlands.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said six appliances and a high reach vehicle were sent to the incident outside an Army perimeter at Fort George, near Ardersier.

The fort is an 18th Century artillery base that continues to operate as a barracks, though parts of the site are run as a visitor attraction by Historic Environment Scotland (HES).

SFRS said there were no reported casualties and crews remained on the scene.

SFRS was alerted to the incident at about 12:15.

HES, which manages the fire-hit building, said it was assessing the cause of the blaze and the extent of the damage.

A spokesperson said: "The fire did not affect the nearby and historic Fort George, which continues to operate as normal.

"We would like to thank the fire, police and ambulance services for their prompt response and assistance with the situation."
