Man dies and child injured in crash near Strathpeffer

A man has died and a child has been injured in a crash near Strathpeffer in the Highlands.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the incident - in the Heights of Achterneed area - at about 16:30 on Friday.

A man was pronounced dead at the scene and his next of kin have been made aware. A child also suffered minor injuries.

Police Scotland said inquiries to establish the full circumstances were ongoing.

In another accident the following day, a 22-year-old man was left in a critical condition in hospital after a serious crash near Garve in Ross-shire.

The accident, which involved a white Audi A3, happened on the A835 at Loch Glascarnoch at about 19:15 on Saturday.

The injured man was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness, where hospital staff described his condition as critical.
