Blaze involving 100 tonnes of straw breaks out

A blaze involving up to 100 tonnes of straw in a field in Shropshire was initially in danger of spreading to other fields and trees.

Crews were called to the field on the outskirts of Bridgnorth, not long before 20:00 BST on Thursday, with their initial actions successfully stopping the spread.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said the task was then "maintaining a controlled burn of the main stack", with assistance from a farmer in "turning over the stack to assist with the burning".

The fire was brought under control by about 21:45 BST, after crews from Bridgnorth, Telford Central and Much Wenlock were sent to the scene.

One fire engine remained at the scene at about 07:45 on Friday, the fire service said.
