Firefighters are damping down after a fire broke out at a waste recycling site.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews along with a water carrier were sent to Sutton Courtenay Landfill site on Appleford Road, near Didcot, on Tuesday shortly before 22:30 BST.

A large plume of smoke rising from the waste fire prompted a warning from the fire service for residents to keep doors and windows closed overnight.

The fire service said crews had since been scaled back with the crew from one fire engine still at the site near the River Thames, south-west of Appleford village.
