Summer of gigs to celebrate museum milestone
Eddie JanssensJohn Lennon's original band will be among acts performing during celebrations of the Museum of Liverpool's 40th anniversary.
Six weeks of gigs will form Summer of Sound, including a show by the Quarrymen - formed in Liverpool in 1956 - on 25 July.
Organisers said the events would "herald Liverpool's musical legacy, while also championing the very best in new music that the city has to offer".
Summer of Sound is a partnership between National Museums Liverpool and the Cavern - the club where the Beatles made their name.
As well as Lennon, The Quarrymen boast among their past members Beatles Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Stuart Sutcliffe.
Original members Colin Hanton and Rod Davis still play with the band.
They will be performing skiffle and early rock 'n' roll and sharing anecdotes of the early days of the group.
There will also be a celebration of the 1960s Liverpool music scene that came to be known as Merseybeat in August.
Newer acts set to perform include four-piece STONE, who blend of punk, garage and electronica.
Claudia LeggeThe Cavern pub's Monday Club open mic night will relocate to the Museum of Liverpool on 15 August, with former Pele frontman Ian Prowse.
The celebration of grassroots music will see artists hand picked to perform their original songs, before Prowse's own set.
International Beatle Week will round off the festival, taking over the museum on 29 August.
Kerry Williams, head of partnerships at National Museums Liverpool, said a "legendary Liverpool act" would headline Summer of Sound, with details of who and when to follow.
