A woman suffered burns and a second person was taken to hospital following a roof fire at a row of bungalows on the Isle of Wight.

Crews from across the island were sent to the four homes in Newbridge, west of Newport, after the fire broke out at about 13:30 BST on Monday.

Firefighters removed roof tiles from the bungalows to check for fire and used fans to clear the smoke. The fire was in the roof space of two of the homes with the other two suffering some smoke damage.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service said a woman was treated for burns to her arm by paramedics and the other person was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Everyone else was accounted for, the service added.

Nearby roads were closed through the evening with people urged to avoid the area.

The cause of the fire is yet to be identified, the fire service said.
