Police are appealing for the owner of mystery lost lamb to come forward.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said officers from Gosport's Neighbourhood Team "were as surprised as anyone" to find a lamb whilst out on patrol on 16 April.

The lamb, which has been named Larry and is thought to only be a couple of weeks old, was taken for a check up at Alver Vets at The Crossways and from there, to a foster home on a farm with other animals.

In a social media post, the force appealed for the owner to contact them and help get the animal "back to its mum".

Officers were guided to the lamb by a member of the public and were "greeted by the bleating of a baby sheep" but there had been "no sign of its mum in the area".

"[The Alver Vets staff ] were brilliant and immediately took it into their care whilst the officers contacted our Rural Team to get advice and see if the owner could be found," the police said.

Larry was fed through the night before he was transferred to the farm of a hobby rescue animal keeper, where he remains.

"If you or someone you know thinks they may have one less sheep than they did last week, please get in touch and we will see if we can get it back to its mum," the force added.
