A woman has died after a crash involving a car and a van in East Yorkshire, police have said.

Officers were called at about 14:30 BST on Wednesday to reports of a collision on the A166 Roman Road in Stamford Bridge.

Humberside Police said a Ford Fiesta travelling on the A166 went into the opposite carriageway for "reasons that are still unknown" and collided with a white Mercedes van near the junction with Dolegate.

The passenger in the Fiesta, an 84-year-old woman, died at the scene and the driver, an 81-year-old man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The force said inquiries into the circumstances were ongoing and urged anyone who may have dashcam footage or information to get in touch.
