A moorland fire has broken out near Wessenden Reservoir on the outskirts of Huddersfield, according to the fire service.

Crews were called to the blaze near Marsden on Thursday evening and remained at the scene overnight before resuming operations at about 05:00 BST, it said.

Seven fire engines and specialist wildfire support teams remained on the moor as of 11:00.

Writing on social media, residents reported a strong smell of smoke around Honley, Brockholes and Meltham.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service urged people to avoid the area.
