M8 Eastbound closed after man falls from bridge

A major motorway in Glasgow is closed after a man fell to his death from a bridge.

Police Scotland said the incident happened just before 03:00 on Sunday morning at the M8 Junction 11, near the Cranhill area of the city.

The eastbound carriageway remained closed on Sunday morning as investigations into the 29-year-old's death continued.

A diversion route is in place, taking the traffic off from Junction 11 and rejoining at Junction 10.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 02:55 on Sunday 30 August, officers attended the M8 at Cranhill, Glasgow, following a report of a man fallen from a bridge onto the eastbound carriageway.

"The 29-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The M8 eastbound remains closed while enquiries are carried out."

Traffic Scotland said once vehicles had taken the Junction 11 off slip, they should turn left to Gartloch Road. At the Gartloch roundabout, drivers should take the second exit on to Auchinlea Road, then take a right onto Westerhouse Road before rejoining the M8 at Junction 10.
