A man has been jailed for 12 years after he shot another man in the leg in a subway in Wolverhampton.

Emergency services were called to reports of a shooting near the subway underpass on Peel Street, Wolverhampton, at about 15:30 BST on 12 October.

A 20-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries and "thankfully survived", West Midlands Police said.

Following an investigation, Tyriq Bingham, 22, of Tangmere Road, Wolverhampton, pleaded guilty to wounding with intent and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

He was sentenced to 12 years in prison at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Friday.

Det Con Joe Harris said: "This a dangerous incident for the victim and those in the area.

"We will not tolerate violence on our streets and will take robust action against anyone involved in crimes like this."
