A cyclist fractured 11 ribs after falling from his bike while swerving to avoid a motorist travelling in the wrong direction towards him in a car park, police have said.

Cheshire Police said a 58-year-old man was riding his bike at Pickering's Pasture in Widnes at about 10:30 BST on 16 September when a vehicle drove the wrong way through the site.

Its driver did not stop and left the scene, said a force spokesperson.

Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has dashcam or other video footage, to come forward.
