Weekend rail engineering works planned for October

Rail engineering works in Cambridgeshire and parts of Norfolk have been planned across each weekend in October.

It will include works on the Fen Line between King's Lynn and Cambridge, but GBR Anglia said it was not in response to recent issues that led to hundreds of trains being cancelled.

The work includes renewing signals between Cambridge North and Ely, station and platform work at Wymondham and track re-railing - with lines being closed for safety reasons.

The Chettisham level crossing north of Ely will also be closed at "various times" overnight and weekends into early November, with a diversion route in place for road users.

Other work planned includes vegetation clearance, drainage work and overhead line maintenance.

Rail users have been encouraged to check before travelling and allow extra time for journeys.

GBR Anglia chief operating officer, Martin Beable, said: "This autumn we're continuing to invest in the railway infrastructure, delivering vital work to keep services operating safely and reliably for our customers.

"This does mean allowing our teams to safely work while trains are not running, but I want to reassure passengers that we are doing as much as we can with the time we have to improve, inspect and repair railway infrastructure."
