Driver, 79, dies after head-on crash with van

A 79-year-old man has died in a crash between a car and a van in West Hallam.

Derbyshire Police said the man was driving a blue Ford Ecosport that crossed into oncoming traffic in High Lane West at about 13:15 GMT on Wednesday and hit a brown Mercedes van.

The force said the man, from the Ilkeston area, died at the scene and the van driver, a man in his 50s, was helping officers with their inquiries.

A road closure was in place between St Wilfrid's Road and Station Road but the stretch has since reopened.
