Two people die after serious crash

Two people have died following a crash between two vehicles.

A white Mazda Bongo van was involved in a collision with a Volvo lorry in Combe Florey, near Taunton, Somerset, at about 06:40 BST on Wednesday, said police.

The two occupants of the van died at the scene and their families have been informed. The A358 is closed at West Bagborough between Williton and Taunton, with bus services unable to operate between the two areas.

The road, which is the main route between West Somerset and the county town of Taunton, is likely to be shut for much of the day, according to Avon and Somerset Police.

The West Somerset Railway will allow locals to use its services between Bishops Lydeard and Watchet while the road closure is in place.

General manager Kerry Noble said the organisation wanted to help the community get about.

"We know that the public transport in the area is severely affected, so it's just so people can hopefully make these journeys that they need to," she added.
