Library to close for essential works

A village library in Rutland is to close for more than two weeks for essential maintenance work to be carried out.

Ketton Library, on High Street, will shut to the public from 17 August until 2 September.

A spokesperson for the county council said the temporary closure was needed to carry out the work quickly and safely.

They said people would not be able to return books during that time but all books borrowed before the closure would automatically have their dates extended until after the library reopened.

The council said further external maintenance work would continue for up to two weeks after the scheduled reopening.

The library will remain open during that second spell but access and parking might be affected at times, the spokesperson added.

Any changes will be signposted and library users are advised to take extra care while in the building during this period.

The authority said the general maintenance works were not related to the recent refurbishment of Ketton Library.

People can continue to use libraries in Oakham, Uppingham and Ryhall during the closure, the spokesperson said.
