Murder accused in court after man struck by car

A man has appeared in court charged with murdering a man who was fatally struck by a car in a suspected hit-and-run.

Matthew Weller, 44, died after he was hit by a VW Passat car in Accrington town centre on Wednesday after 22:00 BST.

Muhammad Haarith, 22, from Exchange Street, Accrington, Lancashire, denied murder at Preston Crown Court.

He was remanded in custody ahead of a trial set to begin in October.
