Man pleads not guilty over bus driver death

A man has denied manslaughter after a bus driver attacked on Battersea Bridge died.

Gary Jones, of no fixed abode, appeared at Kingston Crown Court over video-link from Wandsworth Prison on Monday charged over Sergei Krajev's death.

The 32-year-old spoke only to confirm his name and enter a not guilty plea.

Krajev was assaulted following a confrontation on the pavement while his bus was parked at a stop just before 00:30 BST on 18 May, the Metropolitan Police said.

The 64-year-old was taken to hospital by air ambulance but died the next day.

Jones was arrested on the day of the assault on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with which he was later charged.

On Monday Nathan Rasiah KC, prosecuting, told the court this charge was replaced with manslaughter after Krajev died.

A trial date has been set for 12 April next year at Kingston Crown Court.

Jones has been bailed until then.
