A westbound section of the M55 near Preston in Lancashire will close overnight for five weeks while resurfacing and maintenance works take place.

On weeknights from 15 June to 23 July traffic cannot access or leave the M55 at Junction 1 between 20:00 BST to 06:00, National Highways said.

A fully-signed diversion route will be in operation, and drivers are encouraged to seek alternate paths or allow extra travel time.

While the work takes place, the M6 northbound Junction 32 exit slip – on to the M55 – will also be closed overnight from 23 June to 23 July.
