Family 'shock' at losing mum killed in head-on crash

The family of a woman killed in head-on crash between a car and a lorry have paid tribute to her, saying losing her is "such a shock".

Anita Ashcroft, 61, was a passenger in a Volkswagen Golf that "failed to negotiate a bend" before it hit the HGV on Hall Lane, in Wrightington, on Friday.

The driver of the car, a man in his 70s, also died in the crash. Police said the HGV driver, who had been travelling on the opposite carriageway, was left "shocked but uninjured" and was being treated as a witness by police who are investigating.

The family added of the mother of two: "We miss her terribly but know that she is now resting peacefully. Anita was a daughter and a mum who we dearly loved."
