Man charged over crash that killed three people
BBCA man has been charged over a crash that led to the deaths of three people.
Wiltshire Police said Hugh Campion, 70, of Upper Scudamore in Wiltshire, has been charged with three counts of causing death by dangerous driving and one count of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
The collision, involving a red Toyota Prius and three Vespa motorbikes, happened on the A36 at Knook, near Warminster, at about 10:30 BST in May 2025.
One of the Vespa riders, 62-year-old Robert Best, from Bradley Stoke in Bristol, died at the scene. Marie Jones, 64, a pillion passenger on another Vespa, and Timothy Davies, 62, who was riding the third - died in hospital from their injuries.
The rider of the second motorcycle, a man in his 60s, suffered serious injuries.
The family of Mr Best described him as "loved and adored", adding that he had been travelling to France for "his next adventure" when the collision happened.
Investigating officer PC Paul Brewster from Wiltshire Police's Serious Collision Investigation Team said:
"This is a significant development in our investigation into this tragic collision, in which three people lost their lives and a fourth suffered serious injuries.
"Our thoughts continue to be with their friends and families and they continue to be supported by specially trained officers."
Campion will appear at Salisbury Magistrates' Court on 14 August.
