Visitors to Coventry Cathedral will be able to explore its history and collections through a new digital guide that can be accessed on a smartphone.

The free multilingual guide includes audio, video and text content and can be accessed on-site, by scanning QR codes, or remotely from anywhere in the world.

The scheme was launched in partnership with Bloomberg Connects, which hosts guides for other major cultural institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the National Portrait Gallery, Liverpool Cathedral and York Minster.

The cathedral said the platform was being released this Monday - on the 64th anniversary of its consecration.

Dr Andrew Hines, their head of heritage and interpretation, said the guide would help people "reconnect - with place, with history, and with one another" while making the cathedral "more accessible than ever".

"Through this new digital guide - and new opportunities to explore in person - we're opening Coventry Cathedral in new ways to the Midlands, the nation, and the world," he added.

"At a time when there is such pride and momentum across the city, this feels like the perfect moment to invite people to reconnect - with place, with history, and with one another."

Other ongoing projects at the cathedral include conservation work on the cathedral's medieval glass collection and the reopening of its tower climb later this summer.

The cathedral said it has also appointed a new head of heritage and interpretation as part of "broader plans to expand public engagement".
