Large heath fire leaves land and vehicles burnt

Firefighters are tackling a "large" heath fire in south Oxfordshire, which has destroyed an area of land and left several vehicles burnt out.

People are being urged to stay away from the fire on Goring Heath, near Reading, Berkshire, and to keep doors and windows closed, while crews from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service and Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service tackle the blaze.

Josh Corrie, who was in the area at the time the fire broke out at about 14:20 BST, captured some drone footage, showing the burnt cars and land.

He said: "Parts of the wood were on fire, farmers were coming out with their tractors and ploughs, ploughing around the fire, trying to stop it spreading into the woods."

Corrie, director of a production company, added: "There's a local fencing business and their barn had completely burnt down, there were cars that were on fire and were turning into ash.

"It was not very nice."

Corrie said he could see smoke from miles away and the closer he got the more sirens he could hear.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said there were currently 14 fire engines and a number of specialist appliances at the scene.
