Drivers warned of three weeks of roadworks

Drivers in Bridgnorth face almost three weeks of disruption as resurfacing and work to stablise a rock face get under way on some of the town's busiest roads.

Work on Underhill Street, Hollybush Road, New Road and West Castle Street would take place between 14 September and 2 October as part of a highways improvement programme, Shropshire Council said.

The scheme will involve road closures, temporary traffic lights and signed diversion routes and be completed in three phases.

The first phase runs from 14-18 September and includes resurfacing of Underhill Street between Low Town Bridge and the B4363 junction.

During this period, New Road and West Castle Street will be closed for 24 hours while rock face stabilisation work is carried out.

From 21 to 25 September, crews will move to Hollybush Road, resurfacing the section between the B4364 junction and the junction for Oldbury Wells School.

The final phase, from 28 September to 2 October, sees resurfacing continue on Hollybush Road between Oldbury Wells School and the Pound Street/Listley Street roundabout.

A full road closure will be in place within the work areas during working hours while temporary traffic lights will also be used at key junctions to help manage traffic.

Access to Oldbury Wells School will be maintained throughout the works, although routes will vary depending on the phase of the project.

The council said access would also be permitted for residents and businesses within the closure area when safe to do so, as well as for pedestrians, dismounted cyclists, horse riders and emergency vehicles responding to incidents.

Signed diversion routes will be in place for all other traffic, and motorists are being urged not to park on affected roads while the work is carried out.

More than 90 roads across Shropshire are being resurfaced this year, while more than 70 have already been surface dressed, according to the council.
