New contractor and cash for park and ride service

A bus company has promised to invest almost £1m in a city's park and ride after it takes over the service.

Arriva will hand over the contract to Stephensons on Saturday for the Colchester park and ride which is located off the A12 north of the city centre.

The service is run on behalf of Essex County Council which says there will be a fleet of new buses, "minor" timetable improvements and clearer signage.

Mark Webster, the Reform UK cabinet member for highways and infrastructure, said: "These changes will help ensure the service continues to offer a reliable and attractive alternative to driving."

Dean Robbie, managing director of Stephensons, said: "We are looking forward to building on the success of the current operations."
