Charity soapbox event will return after town debut
Krazy RacesA charity spectacle featuring teams racing soapboxes, after they designed and built them, will return to Telford next summer.
The town's first Krazy Races welcomed around 7,000 spectators and 26 teams for "racing, outrageous costumes and creative homemade karts", Telford & Wrekin Council said.
The event raised more than £10,000 for local good causes, including over £1,000 for headline charity, Lingen Davies Cancer Support's Sunflower Appeal.
Applications are now open to local businesses, schools, colleges, community groups, charities, families and groups of friends ahead of the touring soapbox derby returning to Telford Town Park on 11 July.
Team spaces were open "on a first-come, first-served basis", the council said.
Places sold out months before race day in July this year.
'Bar very high'
People would take on "a downhill course full of twists, turns, chicanes and obstacles", the authority said.
It added that awards would be up for grabs across categories including fastest kart, best design, best performance and "the Public Vote, because at Krazy Races, speed isn't everything".
Head of business at Krazy Races, Danny Scoffin, said there had been "some amazing teams" which had "set the bar very high, so now we're challenging you to come up with something we've never seen before".
The council said it would return to Telford Town Park, following the huge success of the event's first visit to the town.
Cabinet Member for Culture, Tourism and Leisure, Angela McClements, said there was "already a great deal of enthusiasm for next year's event".
"Bringing it back reflects our commitment to delivering exciting events that give residents and visitors more reasons to spend time in Telford, support our local economy and enjoy everything our borough has to offer."
The council added that it was delivering the event again in a partnership, and there would also be food, drink and family entertainment.
