The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) was called out to the Lempitlaw Farm Airfield near Kelso at about 21:45 on Wednesday.
The aircraft was on its side at the small, private grass airfield with the man trapped inside.
He was the only person in the aircraft and the SFRS said he was conscious and breathing with leg injuries. Rescuers freed the man's leg after removing fibreglass panels, and an air ambulance was on scene.
Police confirmed that they had been called out to the airfield on Wednesday evening.
The force said the matter had been referred to the Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB)."
The Scottish Ambulance Service was also in attendance with an ambulance and an air ambulance with a critical care team sent to the scene.
It said one person had been flown to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.
