Appeal after two waste-filled trailers dumped
North Lincolnshire CouncilAn investigation has been launched after two large articulated trailers filled with waste were abandoned on a road in Scunthorpe.
North Lincolnshire Council appealed for information after the trailers were left on Ramsden Road, near Flixborough Industrial Estate, between 27 and 29 June.
The road will be closed from 15:00 BST on 20 July until 09:00 on 22 July while specialist contractors remove the waste under "controlled conditions", the council said.
Council leader Rob Waltham said: "This isn't someone throwing a black bag into a hedge. It's breathtakingly irresponsible and whoever has done this should expect us to pursue every line of inquiry until we identify them."
If hazardous material is found, the authority said the road could be closed for longer.
One of the trailers is missing a wheel and both have no lights, as well as large holes in their roofs so they could be filled from above.
The council said the waste appeared to include insulation boards and tyres.
Because of the damage, the authority said the doors could not be safely opened, meaning officers could not investigate if there was hazardous material inside.
North Lincolnshire CouncilOne of the trailers appears to be a former Parcelforce vehicle. Parcelforce has been contacted for comment.
The council encouraged witnesses or anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage of the trailers being towed or dumped to report it through its fly-tipping reporting portal.
Waltham said: "I'm absolutely determined that those responsible are brought to justice.
"Fly-tipping on this scale is environmental crime, plain and simple, and we will use every power available to us to track down whoever is behind it."
