Drivers across Devon are being warned about parking scams, as a council has said fake QR codes are being used in car parks.

South Hams District Council (SHDC) issued the warning on social media, urging people to "beware of scammers", adding "we do not use QR codes in any of our car parks".

Councillor Julian Brazil said: "Do not use your smartphone to scan in a QR code for parking because it won't be us, it'll be a scam. It's a crying shame, but I'm afraid these characters are out there and we've got to be very vigilant."

He said parking attendants would visit car parks to try to remove the fake QR codes but warned scammers were "pretty persistent".
