The roads due for an upgrade this summer
BBCSeveral roads across the Isle of Man are set to be improved later this year.
The Department of Infrastructure's annual month-long programme of summer surface treatment works is due to get underway in late June.
Many of the roads included have undergone minor repair works over the past few weeks in preparation for the rolling programme.
The works are split into to two categories – surface dressing and microsurfacing.
What is surface dressing?
The process involves spraying a layer of bitumen emulsion onto the road before rolling in stone chippings to create a sealed, waterproof surface.
The department described the treatment as a "a cost-effective road maintenance method" that prevents water damage, reduces potholes, and improves skid resistance.
Road to be treated
- Ramsey to Laxey Coast Road (northern boundary of Laxey to Bulgham Corner)
- St Judes to Andreas Road, Andreas
- Arbory Road, Castletown (junction with Farrants Way to Castletown Bypass)
- Main Road Colby (junction with Colby Glen to the Level), Arbory
- Bowring Road/ Andreas Road (Ramsey Cottage Hospital to junction with Bride Rd)
- Lonan Church Road, Garff (Church Close to Ballacollister Road)
- Beinn Y Phott Road, Braddan & Lezayre
What is microsurfacing?
The process involves applying a protective layer of bitumen to the existing road surface along with fine aggregate. It aims to repair the road without the need for full resurfacing.
