Arrest made as stop-search extended after stabbing

An arrest has been made and stop and search powers further extended following a fatal stabbing.

A man in his 30s died in hospital on Friday after being found with stab wounds in Hodge Hill, Birmingham, on Tuesday. Police believe it was a targeted attack.

West Midlands Police extended its stop and search powers in the area for another 24 hours on Saturday. Officers recovered two machetes and arrested a man after stopping a vehicle in Adderley Road.

On Friday, four men were arrested and a loaded revolver and machetes recovered. Police have not linked any of these arrests to its murder investigation. A section 60 order is now in place until 02:00 BST on Monday.

The Section 60 powers allow officers to stop and search people without the need to have reasonable grounds.

Birmingham Neighbourhood Chief Inspector Chanelle Whitney said police were pleased dangerous weapons had been taken off the streets.

"Weapons and violence have absolutely no place in Birmingham or anywhere in the West Midlands, and we are relentlessly targeting those involved in it," she said.

Police patrols were continuing in the area.
