Man arrested after van crash seriously injures two

Three people have been hit by a van at a high street junction, with two people seriously injured.

Sussex Police say that East Street in Rye is closed at its junction with the High Street after the collision at about 13:30 BST on Friday.

The two people who were injured in the collision are being treated at the scene, while a man has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving and causing injury by serious driving. He remains in custody, the force said.

Members of the public are advised to avoid the area and to expect delays to journeys, a spokesperson said.

Helena Dollimore, MP for Hastings, Rye and the villages, said she was concerned to hear of the "awful incident".

Thanking emergency teams, she said: "My thoughts are with all those injured and caught up in this."
