Five crews have tackled a fire that broke out in the kitchen of a KFC restaurant in Nottingham.

Firefighters from Arnold, Stockhill, London Road, West Bridgford and Highfields were called to the fast food outlet in Woodborough Road, Mapperley, at 10:04 BST on Monday.

Andrew Billam, from Arnold fire station, said the building was "very heavily smoke damaged" and firefighters were working with engineers from KFC.

Crews at the scene said no-one was hurt and the cause of the fire, which involved hot oils, was not yet known.

Billam added: "When we got here, we found the place to be heavily smoke-logged.

"We had to work under arduous conditions to extinguish the fire."

Nottinghamshire Police also attended the scene.
