Peter Rabbit trail sculptures to be auctioned off

Dozens of hand-painted Peter Rabbit sculptures that formed a city trail for the summer are due to be auctioned off.

The 96 Peter Rabbit sculptures were dotted around Newcastle and North Tyneside for nine weeks, with people encouraged to visit and snap a photo of each one.

While the beloved Beatrix Potter character was free to view, paid-for activities such as a sticker book and app supported work of the charity St Oswald's Hospice.

The trail was removed earlier this month and the sculptures are due to be auctioned off to raise money for the same charity.

A ticketed event at Newcastle Civic Centre on 10 and 11 October will bring the sculptures all together for one last time before the auction.

Some of the artists who painted the character will be on hand to answer questions on the day.

The charity said Peter Rabbit: Tales on the Tyne trail brought "lots of colour, joy and entertainment to the city over the summer".

A spokesperson said: "We've loved hearing your stories and seeing your photos and hope you've made some wonderful memories with those you love."

This is the fourth interactive trail St Oswald's Hospice has run in the last 10 years, with the Great North Snowdogs in 2016, Elmer's Great North Parade in 2019 and Shaun on the Tyne in 2023.
