Creative space plan for closed tourist attraction

A children's activity centre at a closed tourist attraction could become a space for artists if plans are approved.

An application to turn the former Playbarn building at aMaizin! Adventure Park, which closed in 2025, into a "collective creative hub" has been submitted to Jersey's planning department.

The building at La Hougue Farm, St Peter, would be called Under One Roof and be a space for artists, sculptors and other members of the creative community to work, the application said.

Jersey Business, a company which supports and offers advice to businesses, said it backed the plans as it would help develop the island's "need to grow a more balanced, resilient and visible non-financial economy".

A statement from MS Planning, who submitted the plans on behalf of applicant Gigi Cooke, said the building provided the ideal opportunity to facilitate the space due to it being a modern structure of high-quality construction.

It said: "This space will provide small businesses and individual artisans with security of tenure to establish themselves, nurturing growth and providing a sustainable future to realise the potential of their creative skills in a unique and inspiring location."

MS Planning added the building would be managed to provide "consistent and professional control and administration" including the scheduling of events and booking of spaces.

Jersey Business said the concept could help creative entrepreneurs overcome barriers they faced.

"It would allow sole traders to reduce overheads, share equipment and knowledge, build confidence, and convert creative practice into more sustainable commercial activity," John Vautier, senior business advisor at Jersey Business, said.
