Two North Yorkshire Police officers suffered minor injuries after the car they were travelling in collided with a HGV, the force has said.

The collision, involving an unmarked Peugeot 308 police vehicle, happened on the A64 at Barton Hill, on Friday at 12:14 BST.

A stretch of the road, between York and Malton, was closed to allow officers to carry out recovery and investigation work.

A force spokesperson said the officers were "responding to an operational matter in the course of their duties" and were taken to hospital, but the HGV driver was not injured.

A number of ambulance resources were sent to the scene, including the air ambulance, Yorkshire Ambulance Service confirmed.

Police appealed for anyone with dashcam footage, or who witnessed the crash, to contact them.
