A fire service has asked people to only call in a "genuine" emergency as it battles a large blaze on an industrial estate.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said multiple crews were tackling the fire on Reservoir Road in Hull, which began at about 19:10 BST.

Humberside Police said Reservoir Road was closed and also advised motorists to avoid nearby Clough Road and use alternative routes.

On social media, residents reported seeing and smelling smoke from several miles away.

The fire service said people should keep their doors and windows closed.

It added: "Our control room is extremely busy. We have a large fire service presence in attendance at Reservoir Road, Hull. Please only call 999 for genuine emergencies."

Pictures of the scene show the blaze is at what appears to be a scrap business.
