Hot school meals to be supplied by UK company

A food company from the UK has been appointed to provide hot school meals for government primary schools across Jersey.

Education minister deputy Catherine Curtis said she had signed a contract with Apetito Limited to also provide menu development, meal production, nutritional compliance and associated catering services.

The School Food Programme began as a pilot in 2019 in partnership with local charity Caring Cooks and Apetito Limited joined it in 2024.

The government said the Wiltshire food firm had been selected following an "open and compliant" procurement process which had included evaluating quality, service delivery arrangements, sustainability and price.

Apetito Limited had demonstrated "a clear ability to meet the nutritional, operational, and logistical requirements of the School Food Programme, as well as the capacity to deliver meals at scale," it said.

The government added fresh fruit supplied by Valley Foods in St Martin would replace a dessert option twice a week.
