Overnight road closures during £10m town revamp
Erewash Borough CouncilA week of overnight closures are due to start as part of a £10m revamp of Long Eaton town centre.
Tamworth Road will close every night between 19:00 and 05:00 BST from Sunday until 10 October.
Erewash Borough Council said the closure was to allow work to be switched from one side of the road for new paving to be installed.
The southbound lane - between the roundabout where Market Place meets Nottingham Road and Derby Road, and the junction with Broad Street - was already made one-way on 2 August, which is due to continue until December.
'Breathe new life'
The refurbishment project - funded through the government's Towns Deals - started in June and is expected to be completed by spring 2027.
It includes new paving along High Street and Tamworth Road and places for people to relax. Designs for the makeover include a nod to the town's history, including its furniture industry.
The council said the project would "breathe new life into the town centre".
The authority said contractors aim to minimise disruption by only closing Tamworth Road completely at night.
"We understand that highway works can be frustrating," a spokesperson said.
"Work is progressing well and you can now see the finished areas, which give an idea of how your town centre will look.
"Thank you for your patience during these works."
Businesses will remain open as usual throughout the work, the council added.
A monthly drop-in event for people to find out more about how Long Eaton is being transformed will be held at Rowells bar, in High Street, on Tuesday.
