Woman caught drink-driving day after being banned
Wiltshire PoliceA woman who was caught drink-driving 24 hours after being disqualified for the same offence has been handed a suspended prison sentence.
Ellie Watson, 27, was initially banned from driving for two years on Wednesday, after being caught drink-driving in April.
Less than 24 hours later, she was caught by police behind the wheel on Ocotal Way in Swindon, having drunk a bottle of wine. She was charged with drink-driving, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance.
On Thursday, she was sentenced to eight weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, and received an updated driving ban for 42 months.
Watson, of Church Walk North in Swindon, blew 109 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath at the roadside, and then 95 in custody after being arrested, considerably above the limit of 35.
In Thursday's hearing at Swindon Magistrates' Court, Watson was also given a 12-month community order.
PC Craig Head, who caught Watson behind the wheel, said: "Watson's actions are absolutely appalling and show absolutely no consideration or respect for other road users.
"Drink-driving can and does kill and to be caught almost immediately after being disqualified for an identical previous offence is completely unacceptable."
